TAFE Queensland has partnered with Ramsay Health Care; Australia’s largest private hospital operator and one of the top five private hospital operators in the world, to give you a unique study opportunity.
As part of this course you will gain a minimum of 400 hours clinical placement experience within a Ramsay Health Care facility. You will gain experience in medical and surgical health related nursing care, in a variety of contexts including medical and surgical, rehabilitation, mental health and aged care.
Upon successful completion of this course you will be eligible to apply for registration with the AHPRA Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as an Enrolled Nurse. Ramsay Health Care is dedicated to training students and will provide preferential employment where possible upon successful completion of studies. A graduate program for Enrolled Nurses called GradPlus is also offered. This program is a fully supported 12 month program with 2-4 study days included. The graduate program will be offered to exceptional student Enrolled Nurses on successful completion of their course of study, if vacancies are available at that hospital.
Course Structure & Location
This course is delivered over 18 months and consists of three components:
- Clinical placement within a Ramsay Health Care facility
- Online theoretical study with TAFE Queensland (enrolling through TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast Region RTO 0275). For information on course units visit tafeqld.edu.au/nursing/
- Residential schools (1 per semester) in simulated nursing labs at a range of TAFE Queensland locations
It is expected that full-time students will need to commit to approximately 30-35 hours per week or the equivalent of 4 days per week to study.

Residential school is where practical skills are taught and developed in simulated nursing labs. Practical skills are presented and assessed at three mandatory residential schools (one per semester). Residential schools may be scheduled between 7.30am to 9.00pm for up to 8 hours per day. Semester 1 and Semester 2 requires attendance for 2 weeks at a time. Semester 3 requires attendance for one week. Dependent upon student numbers, residential schools will be offered at the following locations:

Your work experience during the course is an unsalaried position with Ramsay Health Care. The course cost is $19,000. Payment options are available including

VET Student Loans commenced on 1 January 2017, replacing the VET FEE-HELP scheme. Eligible students can access a VET Student Loan to study a range of courses at the diploma level and above.

Evidence of the following documents must be submitted with your application.
You must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Completed Year 12 or equivalent with sound achievement in English, mathematics and computer skills or complete the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) literacy and numeracy test with a minimum level 4 outcome.
- Be mature age with sound language, literacy and numeracy.
- Completion of a Certificate III qualification or equivalent.
English language requirements
You must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Four years full time equivalent of education at secondary, vocational or tertiary level in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States of America in English.
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7 and above across reading, writing, speaking and listening. IELTS testing is available via TAFE Queensland.
- OET (Occupational English Test) for Nurses pass at “A” or “B” level across reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Current federal police (AFP) check
- Certificate must be issued by the Australian Federal Police.

|Stage 2: Enrolment and eligibility
||You will be emailed by TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast Region to process your enrolment and discuss eligibility requirements. If an applicant has not completed a Year 12 or equivalent, they will need to do a BKSB test (Basic Key Skills Builder). When eligibility is met, your enrolment will be confirmed and you will proceed to stage 3.
|Stage 3: Ramsay shortlist selection process
You will be asked to provide a cover letter, resume and your 2 preferred Ramsay Health Care facilities which will then be provided to Ramsay on your behalf. Shortlisted applicants will proceed to a selection process at one of their preferred Ramsay Health Care facilities.
If you are unsuccessful you can continue your study of the HLT54115 Diploma of Nursing (online) with TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast Region. While you will not be in the Ramsay partnership it is still possible your clinical placement may be in a Ramsay Health Care Facility.
