FAQs

You should gather all of the information you need to make an informed decision about your application and hospital choice. Please read the information on the “Current Opportunities” page which highlights which programs are available at each hospital. You can also click on the hospital name on this page and it will bring up hospital specific information about their programs.

Please ensure that the hospital you choose is offering a program for the intake you are applying for and also you are selecting a program which is offered at that hospital when you apply.

NOTE: If you choose a program which is not offered at the hospital you choose you will decrease the chances of getting an interview. If you choose a hospital that is not offering a program your application will be withdrawn. In this instance, you will be sent an email advising you of this, and you will need to edit your application and resubmit it before the closing date.

Therefore it is very important that you do your research before you submit your application on line. You will be able to lodge your application on line via this website. .

At the time of lodging your application you will be allocated a unique registration ID number which you will need to re-access your application.

You can address applications to the Gradplus coordinator at the hospital which you are applying, or to the State Gradplus Coordinator.

Late applications will not be accepted. You can amend your details or preferences or you can withdraw your application up until the closing date of the intake you are applying for. You will need your unique registration ID number and password to access your application. If you do amend your details or preferences; please remember to SAVE all changes.

Gradplus is available to all recently graduated Registered Nurses, Midwives, and Enrolled Nurses, all applicants must:

  • Successfully complete their study and be eligible to register with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia AHPRA
  • Be able to undertake 12 months full-time or part-time employment
  • Overseas students must have documented proof of English Language skills:

    The English Language Requirements have been determined by AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency).  AHPRA is the governing health professional body and as such, you must meet their registration requirements before you will be eligible to register.  For more information from AHPRA please click on the link below:

  • Australian citizenship or a visa which permits employment in Australia.  There will be no sponsorship available for student visa holders.
  • Display effective interpersonal skills and be able to build rapport with a diverse range of people
  • Be able to accept professional accountability for own actions
  • Be aware of own limitations
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Be willing to embrace the values of the “Ramsay Way”.  our letter of application should address the selection criteria above. You may address your cover letter to “Gradplus Coordinator”

Applicants can submit ONE application per State for each intake

The recruitment process will include:

  • Your application – which includes your CV, covering letter and supporting documents
  • The interview
  • Reference checks completed.  NB: Referee reports are not required upon application, however, we do require the name and contact details of two or more referees included in your CV, or provided at time of interview

Application

  • After submitting your online application, you will receive a confirmation email.  This email will contain your unique registration ID number and password.  You will only receive email confirmation if you have provided a correct/valid email address.  You will need to use your unique registration ID number and password if you wish to change any details in your application, or withdraw your application altogether
  • You will be able to change details in your application up until applications close.  If you do change any details always make sure you have saved any changes and that your application status says ‘Applied’ and notWithdrawn’
  • Your application will be forwarded to your first preference hospital where it will be reviewed.  You will be informed if you have been successful in obtaining an interview within the first few weeks following the closing date.  We ask that you don’t contact the facility at this busy time as they will be reviewing all applications received.  You will be able to select other Ramsay hospitals in your application.  If any of the facilities you have selected request applications, your application will be forwarded and reviewed at these facilities
  • Clinical Placement Assessments may also be known as Clinical Placement Reviews, Summative Assessments to name but a few.  We are looking for formal feedback to see how you, the student nurse performed on clinical placement. If your document is too large, you can submit the pages with the feedback only and take the full document to interview if you are invited to attend

The Interview

  • The hospital you applied to will conduct interviews in the coming months after the closing date
  • At interview you will be asked questions related to the advertised selection criteria.  Questions will be based on the selection criteria and ANMC Competencies.  Questions seek to assess your knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of a novice Registered Nurse / Midwife or Enrolled Nurse (whichever is relevant)
  • There will be 3 people on each interview panel
  • The purpose of the interview is to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria and to enable the interview panel to gather further information about you to enhance your application
  • You will be able to ask questions about the position at the interview
  • You MUST bring the following supporting original documents with you to your interview:
    • Proof of citizenship or residency
    • Phots identification e.g. Driver’s License or Passport
    • Passport with visa documentation if from overseas
    • You must also provide the name, address and telephone number of two referees who may be contacted about you.  One of the referees must be a clinical referee.  Please make sure the referees you have nominated are aware they may be contacted
  • The hospital will advise you how to obtain feedback after your interview.  In accordance with privacy laws, applications can only be discussed with the applicant unless the applicant gives consent for discussion with another specified person

Notification of Offer of Employment

  • You will be advised in writing via email of one of the following outcomes:
    • You have been unsuccessful
    • You have been unsuccessful at your first preference hospital and have been placed on an eligibility list if positions become available at any of the facilities you indicated to in your application that you would be happy for your application to be reviewed at
    • Your 1st preference hospital will contact you either by phone or email and arrange an interview.  You will be advised of the result of your interview after the selection process has been completed.  The date will be confirmed with you at interview
  • If you are offered a position you will have up to two weeks from when you receive your eContract in which to accept the offer or the offer will be withdrawnYour eContract will be sent in writing via email from the National Workforce Planning and Development Department within 7 days of you verbally accepting the offer of employment by the hospital.  You will need to return the signed eContract and Position Description within 10 days of it been sent to you.  All other documentation must be returned to your employing hospital who will also contact you to arrange uniforms
  • Once you have signed and returned your eContract you will be able to access our wonderful online library, details will be provided by your employing hospital

Examples of evidence which should be produced at interview, include:

  • an Australian passport; 
  • an Australian birth certificate (provided you were not born in Australia as a temporary resident);
  • an Australian Citizenship Certificate;  or
  • a Permanent Residency Visa

Photo ID will also be required.

New Zealand citizens residing in Australia who hold a current Special Category Visa have full work rights – you must be able to provide evidence of your New Zealand citizenship in the form of a New Zealand passport or certificate of Status for New Zealand citizens in Australia.

If the name on any of your documents is different from your application form, you must also provide evidence of name change, e.g. Marriage, Divorce or Change of Name Certificate, must be provided.

Please do not assume that we will know you are an Australian citizen. Evidence must be provided at interview.
